What you spend – Spending wisely

You spend money. On things you need. On things you want.

Sometimes on impulse. Sometimes with a plan. Sometimes because others do.

This chapter helps you pause and decide calmly what goes out – and why.

🛠️  Practical tips for the moment you want to spend

1. Take a quick break for questions

Before you pay, ask yourself:

  • "Do I want this – or do I need it?"
  • "How will I feel when I buy it – and afterwards?"

→ You’re allowed to pause. Even right there in the store.

2. Apply the 3‑minute rule

When you feel like buying something on impulse:

  • Put it back.

  • Walk around for three minutes or look at something else.

  • Come back – and decide again.

Changing your mind is not a mistake – it’s wisdom.

3. Keep a short list – three expenses during the week

Write down:

  • What did I buy? Why? How do I feel about it?

→ No need to judge. Just notice.

🧾  Mini‑exercise: Three expenses – three reflections

Expense Amount Why? Feeling afterwards
Movie ticket €9 Time with friends Content, connected
Snack at train station €4 Hungry, no time Okay, but restless
Phone case €12 Nice, group trend Proud, but uncertain

→ You may see your thoughts – without judging them.

🕊️  Closing impulse

You spend money. You may do so – with measure.

You may change your mind – without shame.

You may show yourself – through your spending.
